Specific Skills

A Ph.D. in Political Science or a related discipline is required. Government and Politics is a field within the discipline of Political Science and thus satisfies the education requirement. Employer requires 1 a commitment to teaching excellence; 2 strong skills in computational social science and data science, broadly defined; 3 demonstration of application of such skills to substantive questions in political science, preferably in the areas of comparative politics or international relations; 4 a strong track record of highquality publications, appropriate to rank; and 5 to demonstrate ability to obtain external research grants. This Prevailing Wage Determination Request is filed for purposes of a PERM application for permanent employment certification for a university teacher. Pursuant to 20 CFR 656.18, the employer is permitted to consider preferred qualifications in addition to minimum requirements for the position to determine whether the alien is more qualified than U.S. applicants. Desirable candidates include 6 those who have interest in contributing to social science methodological training across campus; contributing to a broader integrative data science initiative at Purdue; attracting external funding; or who have one of the following areas of strengths machine learning, network modeling, statistical methods for large and complex data, natural language processing, text, audio, andor image analytics, data visualization, andor other related methods. To satisfy the requirements of 13, and the preference 6, employer accepts demonstration of one semester 16 weeks in any role involving research in or related to one of the listed fields after the acquisition of a doctoral degree; acceptable titles include postdoctoral titles, research scientist titles, research assistantassociate titles, or similar titles. To satisfy 4, Employer accepts evidence of i publication of scholarly papers in national or international journals; ii poster or oral presentations at national or international conferences, or iii publication of scholarly books or chapters by national or international publishers within the field; all of which may occur concurrently with graduate andor doctoral studies. To satisfy 5, Employer accepts demonstration of participation named or unnamed in grantfunded research, which research may be undertaken concurrently with graduatedoctoral studies.
