Because this position requires an advancedlevel of engineering expertise, the employer has determined that a Masters Degree is required. Civil and Structural Engineering graduate programsbr prepare students to plan and develop complex structural engineering design projects, including those relevant to this position. In addition to learning engineering fundamentals, students are required to participate in rigorous research projects and spend hours completing lab work. Through these programs, they learn how to creatively solve problems, design and implement experiments, improve processes. In addition, the advancedlevel coursework allows them to examine and understand the theoretical underpinnings of the field. Because of the responsibilities of this position, this type of educational background is necessary. In addition, because this Associate Project Consultant position is required to provide structural engineering services with an emphasis on new design, investigation, repair and rehabilitation of constructed works, the employer has determined that a combination of a university education and handson experience is necessary. Due to the level of responsibility that this position entails, specifically the responsibility to generate or check structural analysis calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications and to assist senior staff in site investigations, the employer has determined that at least one year of experience is necessary for the position.
