Required Education A Ph.D. U.S. or foreign equivalent in Peace Studies, Criminology, Sociology, Peace and Conflict Studies, or a closely related field is required.br br In determining the most qualified candidate, the Search Committee also considered the following The ideal candidate will have experience in both higher education teaching and grassroots community engagement, in a global or local setting. In addition to strong scholarship and teaching, the candidate will demonstrate capacity to take initiative, develop and implement social justice programming, oversee student internships in the field, and grow sustainable relationships with community partners. Candidates for this position must have academic expertise in public policy and the criminal justice system as well as strong community engagement.br br Experience in teaching and grassroots community engagement were not minimum requirements but were factors in considering most qualified. Therefore H.6. and H.10. have been answered quot;noquot;.br br Obasesam Okoi has a Ph.D. in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Manitoba, which has been certified as equivalent to a Ph.D. in Peace and Conflict Studies from a regionally accredited university in the U.S. He therefore meets the educational requirement for the position. The Search Committee at the University of St. Thomas found Obasesam Okoi to be the most qualified candidate for the position for reasons including His education and research in peace and justice studies and criminal justice, his relevant teaching experience, his active research agenda, his record of community engagement, and his Ambassador for Peace Award from the Universal Peace Federation.
