Specific Skills

Candidates must possess, at minimum, a Masters degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electric Power Systems Engineering, or related. All candidates must also possess knowledge, as evidenced by passing a basic technical proficiency test, of at least five of the seven following subject matter areas 1 electric power system protection, including electric power system stability, and associated practices, philosophies, applications, and protocols; 2 electric power system analysis and associated practices, philosophies, and applications; 3 digital signal processing theory, practices, and applications; 4 statistical and data analysis theory, application, and techniques; 5 theory, programming, application, and use of simulation software in the analysis of power system transients, evaluation of load flow, and performance of short circuit studies; 6 theory, design, application, and use of analytical tools such as Matlab, Simulink, and Mathcad to design algorithms; and 7 software design and development. Note All candidates for all engineering positions at SEL must pass a basic technical proficiency test. Candidates must also be willing to comply with SELs DrugFree and TobaccoFree policies.
