Specific Skills
H.10B Must have 3 years of experience in bulk electric system operations andor transmission planning. Experience must include performing technical studies per regional Tariff rules for the regional planning process; performing all necessary studies including load flow, stability, short circuit and evaluations to assess system reliability and determine transmission system solutions to resolve concerns; interacting with stakeholders to seek input and address their concerns with respect to transmission system analysis; performing reliability studies needed to meet NERC compliance requirements; performing reliability determinations for resources requesting change in to energy market; and developing data, assumptions, methodology and procedures for use in reliability studies of bulk power systems. We will also accept BS and 5 years of experience in stated areas.br H.12 PLEASE NOTE These requirements bear a reasonable relationship to the occupation of Electrical Engineer in the context of the bulk power industry and are essential to perform the job in a reasonable manner. In this case, ISO has not, and would not, hire someone into this position without an MS and 3 years of experience or a BS and 5 years of experience. This position requires an advanced, indepth, theoretical understanding of electrical engineering principles, best gained through a university education. In particular, electrical engineering programs provide students with the tools, methods and practice necessary to work in the specialized field of electrical power distribution. Electrical engineering students learn how to design, troublehshoot, and install electrical systems; evaluate and correct electrical problems; develop methods to use power efficiently; and develop applications for electric and electronic systems to improve performance. In addition to learning engineering fundamentals, students are required to participate in rigorous research projects and spend hours completing lab work. Through these programs, they learn how to creatively solve problems, design and implement experiments, and improve processes. In addition, the advancedlevel coursework allows them to examine and understand the theoretical underpinnings of the field. In addition, this Engineer plays a key role in maintaining the reliability and efficiency of the New England bulk electric power system that encompasses more than 14 million residents in 6 states. Because of the level of responsibility that this position entails, as well as the serious consequences of errors, ISO New England has determined that several years of experience with electric power systems operations, modeling, assessment and planning is necessary. Please note that ISO New England wants to ensure that our positions are open to the largest candidate pool possible. Therefore, whenever possible, we design our requirements to allow for alternate combinations of acceptable education and experience so as to ensure the successful applicant will be able to perform the job duties, while still considering different combinations of education and experience. In this case, the employer has determined that this position requires a Masters and 3 years of experience or a Bachelors Degree and 5 years of postdegree experience.
