Specific Skills

The Application Engineer Protection will be based out of SELs Irvine field office located at 420 Exchange, Suite 100, Irvine, California 92606. However, because SEL has numerous customers nationwide, some travel is required, as the incumbent will occasionally and on a shortterm basis be deployed to various customer sites. Candidates must therefore be willing to travel to various unanticipated locations throughout the United States on an ongoing basis.br br Candidates must possess, at minimum, a Masters degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related. All candidates must also possess knowledge, as evidenced by passing a basic technical proficiency test, of three out of the four following subject matter areas 1 power systems operation and control, including application of power systems apparatus such as transformers, generators and motors; 2 protective relay engineering theory and applications including time coordination techniques for both directional and nondirectional relays; 3 protective relay applications, testing, and best known industry practices; and 4 theory and formulation of symmetrical component networks used for short circuit current calculations. Note All candidates for all engineering positions at SEL must pass a basic technical proficiency test. Candidates must also be willing to comply with SELs DrugFree and TobaccoFree policies.
