Specific Skills

Candidates must possess, at minimum, a Bachelors degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related engineering field as well as 36 months of fulltime professional postbaccalaureate work experience as an Automation Engineer, Protection Engineer, or related occupation. All candidates must also possess knowledge, as evidenced by passing a basic technical proficiency test, of all five of the following subject matter areas 1 3phase, electric power systems, and electric utility protection theory, practices, applications, and operations; 2 Serial, Ethernet, and multiple communication protocols utilized in the power industry, including MODBUS, DNP3, IEC 60870, IEC 61850, GOOSE, and MMS; 3 network systems theory, design, application, and operation, including network devices and interfaces; 4 time synchronization methods and protocols and 5 electric power SCADA system theory, design, operation, and maintenance including common data types, HMI, and PLC. Note All candidates for all engineering positions at SEL must pass a basic technical proficiency test. Candidates must also be willing to comply with the companys DrugFree and TobaccoFree policies.
