New products are constantly being introduced to further improve container productivity and quality.The requirements for the position of Sales Engineer include Bachelors in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or directly related field. Foreign equivalent education is acceptable. 3 years of experience as sales engineer 1 year of which must be in the glass container industry. Approximately 20 trips of 3 to 10 days, domestically and internationally per year.BACHELORS IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING OR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING OR DIRECTLY RELATED FIELD. FOREIGN EQUIVALENT EDUCATION IS ACCEPTABLE Fulfillment of the job duties requires comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles and requires knowledge of sophisticated strategies and methodologies founded on complex engineering principles. The acceptable academic courses of study provide foundation necessary to understand, not only the methodology behind the products, but the underlying engineering principles and processes. The required engineering degree programs cover the mathematical, scientific and engineering principles required to design and develop new technology. This knowledge is critical to the Sales Engineers ability to evaluate systems, analyze requirements, and understand potential solutions as well as limitations to suggested improvements. THREE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AS SALES ENGINEER ONE YEAR OF WHICH MUST BE IN THE GLASS CONTAINER INDUSTRY. This is an engineering position the adjective sales describes the type of engineering to be performed, i.e. it is focused on performing sophisticated engineering analysis, and offering design and modification suggestions in the interest of increasing sales. The sales engineer is responsible for providing engineering assessments on the ground, familiarizing himself with particular customers and their engineering needs, and developing preliminary engineering design solutions. This is not an entry level position as the employee must be able to make independent engineering assessments, often while at the client site. This is especially so as the industry has become more complicated and there are more electronic components in the machines for which employer supplies components. We state that one year of the experience must be in the glass container industry as the equipment used in this industry is highly specialized and complex and an individual with general knowledge in the field will not be prepared to perform assessments, suggest design modifications and make other recommendations. We submit that only one of the years of experience must be in the industry as we believe that this is sufficient time for an academically qualified individual to learn the industry, its needs, the processes, and the engineering principles upon which the processes are based. APPROXIMATELY 20 TRIPS OF THREE TO TEN DAYS, DOMESTICALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY PER YEAR. As a Sales Engineer, an integral part of the employees duties will involve attending meetings at client sites, conducting onsite evaluation of their equipment, processes and protocols and consulting with clients. This requirement is standard for such positions. We respectfully submit that the requirements for the job are normal for the occupation. Even if that were found not to be the case, they are justified by business necessity and bear more than a reasonable relationship to the duties of the job offered within the context of our business.
