Because this position requires an advancedlevel of engineering expertise, the employer has determined that a Masters Degree is required. Civil Engineering graduate programs prepare students to plan and develop complex structural engineering design projects, including those relevant to this position. In addition to learning engineering fundamentals, students are required to participate in rigorous research projects and spend hours completing lab work. Through these programs, they learn how to creatively solve problems, design and implement experiments and improve processes. In addition, the advancedlevel coursework allows them to examine and understand the theoretical underpinnings of the field. Because of the level of this position, this type of educational background is necessary. In addition, because the Project Consultant position is responsible for conducting field investigations and inspections, monitoring field construction, and writing inspection reports, the employer has determined that a combination of a university education and handson experience is necessary. Due to the level of responsibility that this position entails, specifically generating or checking structural analysis calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications, the employer has determined that at least two years of experience is necessary for the position.
