Fluency in the Japanese language is required to fulfill the duties of this position. In fact, the Family Counselor will use Japanese on a daily basis, as this particular position was created to assist all of the Japanese patients who require our assistance in assessing their mental, emotional and overall health conditions. In other words, while the majority of Serenity Mental Health LLCs patients may not necessarily consist of Japanese nationals, approximately 7080 of the patients who require our Family Counselors assistance consist of Japanese individuals and families living in Nevada, whose first language is Japanese. Many of these clients, especially given their mental and emotional conditions, have immense difficulty in explaining their complex emotions, interpersonal relationships and family structures in English. Thus, when our Family Counselor collects and analyzes information about these Japanese patients, their interpersonal relationships and family structures through testing, interviewing, group discussion and observation techniques, she must be able to understand Japanese as these tests and interviews are conducted in Japanese. We place strong emphasis on developing and implementing individualized treatment and counseling plans through assessing our patients condition and needs. Japanese fluency is therefore necessary to maintain our quality of service when dealing with our Japanesespeaking clients. In other words, a Family Counselor who cannot communicate, read and write in fluent Japanese will not be able to effectively perform the duties described at Item # H11 above.
