Must possess a valid Colorado Department of Education Teachers License with appropriate endorsement in English Language Arts 712 or Spanish K12, or ability to obtain. Ability to speak, read, and write both in English and Spanish.br br THIS IS A DUAL LANGUAGE POSITION AND IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE SPANISH SECONDARY TEACHER BE FLUENT IN SPANISH IN ORDER TO COMMUNICATE WITH AND INSTRUCT STUDENTS IN BOTH SPANISH AND ENGLISH.br br Over 17,000 students are enrolled in world languages at DPS schools. Languages taught include Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Lakota.br br DPS currently has 16 dual languageimmersion schools instructing over 3000 students in either Spanish and English, Mandarin and English, or French and English. Research indicates that the very process of acquiring another language may give learners a cognitive boost that enables them to perform at higher levels in some other subjects. Additional studies show that over time second language learners have improved test scores; are able to think divergently; and achieve in their first language.br br To acquire another language and to study culture is to gain an especially rich preparation for the future. It is difficult to imagine a job, a profession, a career, or a leisure activity which will not be enhanced greatly by the ability to communicate efficiently and sensitively with others. Possessing the linguistic and cultural insights that come with the study of one or more world languages will be a requisite for life as an informed, productive, and globally literate citizen in the worldwide community. Therefore, it is necessary that the Foreign Language Spanish Secondary Teachers are fluent in Spanish.
