Specific Skills

The position requires a High school diploma or equivalent and must have a valid Florida Drivers License. All candidates must successfully pass the Entrance Examination Test as outlined in the Rockledge Fire Department Candidate Orientation Guide consisting of a written test requiring a score of 70 or more, complete a 1.5 mile run in 18 minutes or less, complete a five part fire skills assessment test of a ladder carry and raise, stair climb with equipment, hose line hoist, equipment carry, and victim rescue in 7 minutes or less, and complete a 10 minute panel assessment The position requires one year of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician and 6 months of basic Firefighter experience. Must possess a Florida State Firefighter Minimum StandardsFirefighter II Certification and Florida National Registry Paramedic Certification and valid ACLS Certification. Physical requirements include the ability for heavy lifting and dragging of objects and materials weighing more than 100 pounds, using a selfcontained breathing apparatus SCBA and an ability to maintain a constant flow of clean air while removing the airpack safely in the space. Must be able to instruct others in emergency medical and firefighting tactics, specialty responses such as electrical hazards, and natural gas emergencies. Must have a basic knowledge level of biohazards, chemical nerve agents, radioactive and explosives and experience with other specialty responses involving hybrid vehicles and safe extrication, natural disasters such as hurricanes and tornadic activities and flooding. Must be adept at water rescue. Must have successfully completed the following courses ICS 700, ICS 800, Helicopter Operations, Confined Space Rescue, Elevated Rescue and Rope Operations , Fire Officer 1, Pump Operations, and Aerial Operations.
